Active Rest
Active Rest Over the Holidays
The holidays are upon us once again as everyone strives to finish the 2017 season on a high note. Whether your plans include traveling to see friends and family or just staying in, this can be a great opportunity to catch up on some much needed rest. Using this time to recharge your batteries can help start you off on the right foot and set the tone for the New Year. But what kind of rest will be the most beneficial? Will spending endless hours on the couch with a stomach full of potatoes and turkey help propel you to greatness in 2018? Probably not, but here are a few different active rest activities to help you recuperate and maintain during this Holiday season.
Active rest is described as very light exercise. Its purpose is to keep the body moving without overexertion. Many of the workout routines we follow are full of repetitive activities that can lead to overuse injuries. Active rest promotes activities that keep us moving and get us out of our normal routines. This allows our bodies to repair while maintaining our levels of fitness.
Here are a few suggestions to help keep you moving this Holiday season:
Swimming (great cardiovascular workout that is low impact on joints)
Yoga (improves mobility and core strength
Riding your bike (promotes blood flow to the legs)
