Burke-Gilman Trail

One of Seattle’s most popular running or biking routes, the Burke-Gilman Trail is a 27-mile long marked urban trail that stretches between Kenmore and Gas Works Park. From the Puget Sound, past Lake Union, and along Lake Washington, this trail takes you through many quiet neighborhoods, passes the Brooks Running headquarters, and hugs the shorelines of various bodies of water. Most of this trail is flat, and even some parts have a dirt path along side the asphalt trail.

Discovery Park

A former military base and now Seattle’s largest public park, Discovery Park is located in the Magnolia area of Seattle. In its 534 acres of woods, meadows and beaches, there are almost 12 miles of trails in wooded and open areas, featuring views of the Puget Sound and the Olympic Mountains. At one of the main beaches you can even walk along a beach and see an old lighthouse! This park is home to a diversity of wildlife and many species of birds. This park really is a treasure for those living in Seattle and wanting to escape the noise and hustle and bustle of the city.

Green Lake

Located in North Seattle along Aurora Avenue, Green Lake is one of Seattle’s most popular recreational parks and features a 2.8-mile trail that completely encircles the lake and follows its shore. Connecting easily to the Burke-Gilman trail, and in close proximity to the Woodland Park, and Woodland Park Zoo, it is an excellent location for the hundreds of runners that visit daily. With plenty of parking close-by, and beautiful fields, this park becomes very full in the summer or on sunny days with runners, walkers, bicyclists,picnickers, and those there to sunbathe or play a variety of sports.

Washington Park Arboretum

Hours: Daily – dawn to dusk
Located near University of Washington, and situated on Lake Washington’s shores, this 238-acre biological and horticultural paradise is filled with beautiful old forests, gardens, and wetlands and contains many trails and boardwalks. Along with an extensive variety of rare trees and plants this park is also home to much wildlife. East of Capitol Hill, this park is easily accessible, as it connects to the Lake Washington shore trail, and lies near to the Burke-Gilman trail.

Lake Union

For those who prefer more urban scenery during a run, this almost exactly 10K route provides a variety of beautiful views of the water activity on Lake Union, the Seattle skyline, as well as the Olympic Mountains to the east, and Mount Rainier to the southeast.
